Our Story
Seashell Awnings is proudly invented in Australia.
Seashell Awnings® are the brilliant innovation of Ken Gale. He’s always had a keen interest in industrial design and is constantly motivated to simplify complicated problems. He had spent a good part of his professional life in construction, solving design concept issues for businesses in and around his Port Macquarie, Australia home.
In 1998, while convalescing at home from a back injury, Ken was challenged to replace a sail used to shade the courtyard of his home. That led him to research a replacement solution that was nowhere to be found.
“The fact of the matter is, until Seashell came along there was no awning that could waterproof an area between a house and an outdoor area, be left unattended to fend for itself even in the most hostile wind environments and still be folded away in seconds.” -Ken Gale
It became obvious to Ken that there was a definite need for something like he’d envisioned and began designing his own concept for the perfect retractable awning. He and his team developed prototypes that highlighted the structural challenges that prevented such an awning from already existing. But finally, with structural problems solved, a working prototype was ready to be tested, then certified and finally patented. Seashell Awnings® has been in the business of shade since then.

At our core, we’re family here at Seashell Awnings® and we’re very proud of the quality and beauty our awnings bring to the community.
